One for the Record

It’s Sunday and I’m the first to wake up at the Gradin household – it’s been 30 minutes and I’m still the only one awake. Those of you with small children will probably recoil in shock with me on this. Balthazar has always been the one to wake me between 6:30am and 8:00am on the weekends. He’s three and he’s got things to do, you know. But this morning he is still sleeping restfully in his bed at 8:30. Getting him to stay in his own bed for an entire night is also a great endeavor. It’s interesting to note these little phases in his life. They seem to change subtley almost daily in their routine. I would love for this morning’s routine to ride out – I’ve always really enjoyed the morning to myself, or maybe just to quiet and peace.

  1. I don’t have children. But, I have one VERY vocal Turkish Angora (kitty) named Sakura. She does not let me sleep past around 5:00. BUT, last night, we fed her some new yummy food and it seems to sedate her for hours. I managed to sleep in until 9:30 and had a semi-peaceful morning.

    I do love mornings.

  2. Maybe it’s because his little body still thought it was 7:30, you know, with the time change and all. Don’t get me wrong, I would give my eye teeth to be able to sleep until 8:30 on a Saturday morning, but there MUST be a logical explanation for this!!!

  3. Yeah – and you know what? The boy didn’t wake up that morning until 10:30. *That’s* freakish! I actually checked his breathing. I learned later that he had a very restless sleep, so that figures.

  4. You know, there were times when my toddlers slept in. It was always a golden time as I, too, love a slow, peaceful morning. There usually is no logical explanation. I do know that when you want them to get up early (like a schoolday), you can count on it being a battle. Well, unless it is a perfect child, like you were, Ole.

  5. OK, so I had to come back to this one…

I thought about this entry last Sunday morning. I awoke to my son, who is B’s age for those who don’t know, bursting in my room at 9:30. Did you hear that?!?! 9:30 a.m. Not the usual 6:30 (7:00 if I’m lucky) but 9:30! So…I feel compelled to come back to this entry and eat my words.

    Sleep, glorious sleep!
