Soylent Green is People, This is Not

Earlier, I said dog days are coming and I meant it. It has taken a while to get everything worked out, but Monday begins something a little different. A friend and I will commit ourselves to eight weeks of dry dog food-eating experimentation for the betterment of mankind. I know you have lot’s of questions,… Continue reading Soylent Green is People, This is Not

How I Work

The longest amount of time spent, and time I am unable to account for, is research. Depending on the topic, I may spend a week pouring through as many references I can find on a particular subject to get a real good feel for the information. If I don’t require reference material as I write, it goes much quicker.

Team in Training

Some friends of mine, Brandon Smith and his wife, are running in the Arizona marathon on January 15th. They’re raising money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so it’s not just insane excercise but also a good cause. The donation site lists their progress and training goals along the way. Fortunately, my ninja reflexes allowed my life to be spared and I received the wound on… Continue reading Something Wickèd this Way Comes…

A Considerate Computer

Microsoft Research tells us about some intelligent software able to make decisions on availability versus message importance. The workforce potentially loses lots of productive time attending to unimportant emails. Worse still, unimportant messages can cut into personal time. This system is designed to do the human part of risk analysis in order to determine whether… Continue reading A Considerate Computer

Military-Strength Exfoliator

The ray gun is under development by our military research experts in the Pentagon. The device uses a microwave technology to penetrate just beneath the skin and boil it. Probably a bit like a jellyfish or tattoo experience. I could see that as being an effective deterrence, though a Tesla-like charge of taser energy would… Continue reading Military-Strength Exfoliator

The Honda Experience

The Honda Element has an unusual aesthetic value about it. I believe the general favor for this vehicle is split between those who love it and those who hate it. Oddly still, that split is probably 50/50. My wife and I coincidentally agree on our view and like the overall design. We’re both mostly utilitarian… Continue reading The Honda Experience
